Registering and Managing Security Info
Introduction
To help secure your account we need you to register some security information so that we can verify your identity. This is either by installing the Microsoft Authenticator App (preferred and most secure) on your phone or registering your mobile number. This will allow you to generate a unique temporary 6-digit code to verify your identity when resetting your password or accessing your account.
Important Note
- Once you have set up the authenticator app you should not uninstall or delete the app as you need this to get into your account.
- If you have changed your number or are replacing your phone you should ensure that you register your new device before you removing the old device.
- If you lose or damage your device and can't get into your account, please contact the Service Desk.
Registering security info during sign-in
If you have not registered security info when you next access College IT services and enter your username and password, you will be prompted to register your security info. Please follow the onscreen prompts. It is recommended that you set up the Microsoft App as this is the most convenient and secure option. However, you do also have the option to set up a mobile number instead by choosing I want to set up a different method.
Set up and manage your security info
You can visit the My Account portal by going to https://myaccount.microsoft.com and then choose Security info. Choose the option Add a method and then follow the on-screen wizard.
Delete or manage your security info
You should ensure that your security info is kept up to date, so you always have access to your account. For example, ensure you register your new mobile before disposing of the old one.
Visit the My Account portal by going to https://myaccount.microsoft.com and then choose Security info. You can then amend or delete previously registered security info.
Change default security info method
If you have registered both the Microsoft Authenticator app and a mobile number and wish to change the default method used, you can do this by visiting the My Account portal by going to https://myaccount.microsoft.com and then choose Security info. Click the Change option next to the Default sign-in method and then choose your new preferred method.
