Direct Access Solution
If you are unable to access the staff home page and all the icons on your desktop look like blank white pages (as seen below) then your laptop maybe having issues with Direct Access (DA):
You can double-check the status of your laptop’s DA in the Network tab.
On the taskbar in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen you should be able to see one of the following icons:
Clicking on any of these Icons should bring up the following menu:
If DA is functioning correctly then the “West Suffolk College” Heading should display the “Connected” – as shown below:
If the text displayed is showing “Connecting” or not displaying anything at all then your laptop is more than likely having issues with DA.
If that is the case, then please follow the steps detailed below:
Step 1: On your desktop, you should see the “Direct Access Fix” icon (see below) – if not please contact IT Services.
Step 2: Right-click on the icon, a pop-up menu should appear, click the “Run with PowerShell” option
Step 3: A new window should appear (As shown Below), type ‘Y’, and press the Enter Button to run the PowerShell.
Step 4: The program will run and disappear. Your laptop should now have re-connected to Direct Access but may need a restart before the re-connection can complete, check the connection status of DA as shown at the start of this guide. If DA still shows as “connecting” or is blank then please restart your laptop.
Step 5: If you continue to have issues, the DA after completing all steps of this guide then please call IT Services on 01284 716555 or Log a Freshdesk Ticket.
